Groundbreaking Testicular Tissue Transplant Achieved at the University Medical Center
A historic medical breakthrough has been achieved as surgeons successfully performed the first-ever transplant of cryopreserved immature testicular tissue that had been preserved for 16 years.
We showed that surviving spermatogonia in non-mosaic adult Klinefelter patients (47,XXY) are euploid, as well as the surrounding Sertoli cells. In prepubertal Klinefelter boys, the germ cells are euploid, but the Sertoli cells are still 47,XXY. A new grant was obtained from Tübitak by Semir Gül to conduct further research into the timing of the X-chromosome loss in testicular cells from Klinefelter boys.
